About the Author
Yoshiki Tanaka was born in 1952 in Kumamoto Prefecture and completed a doctorate in literature at Gakushuin University. Tanaka won the Gen’eijo (a mystery magazine) New Writer Award with his debut story “Midori no Sogen ni…” (On the Green Field…) in 1978 and then started his career as a science fiction and fantasy writer. Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Dawn, which translates the European wars of the nineteenth century to an interstellar setting, won the Seiun Award for best science fiction novel in 1987. Tanaka’s other works include the fantasy series The Heroic Legend of Arslan and many other science fiction, fantasy, historical, and mystery novels and stories.

A Slight Tale by a Good Author

"The Frozen Deep" is a slight tale by the very excellent 19th century English writer, Wilkie Collins, whose most famous book is "The Moonstone." Collins first wrote this story as a stage play, but when it failed, he rewrote it as a book. It is a quick read, which has the potential to relax, and will most certainly not tax the reader. It's a Victorian romance with a sea adventure thrown in, and one of the characters has some contact with the paranormal. A good book to read quickly while you're looking around for something more substantial.

Victorian melodrama

I am perhaps being unfair to this author by giving his work only 4 stars, but it is certainly not up to the standard of his classic works "The Woman In White" and "The Moonstone". In his defense, however, I will say that this novella is interesting, for a work that grew out of a play performed by the author and Charles Dickins. It's a typical Victorian melodrama, with coincidences abounding everywhere, and florid speeches and unusual (for our time) actions by the main characters. There really isn't any character development, perhaps because the tale is so short, but you do get into the spirit of the story fairly quickly. It's an entertaining diversion that will keep you occupied for an hour or so.

Another good Collins read

The Frozen Deep is a novella based on a play that Wilkie Collins write, with changes by Charles Dickens.

It is about a woman and the two men who want her and a trip to the North Pole (Arctic expeditions being big at the time).

The Frozen Deep is much shorter than the Woman in White, or the Moonstone, so it can be read quickly. I especially liked the one scene on the ice, as one of the characters struggles to maintain his control. As is often the case, much of the problems could be avoided if the characters talked to each other, but that wouldn't be much of a story.

The Frozen Deep is an enjoyable read, and worthy addition to your free Kindle library.

Basic Bible for Biologist

This edition is more detailed than 9th edition. I love the stuff that they added and revised, such as better pictures and improved examples. The 7th and 9th edition are adequate enough to learn basic biology, but keeping updated with new editions is wise.

Firstly, there are pros and cons for the hardcover and three-ring binder options...

Hardcover: Pro: the whole thing is in one whole piece. Con: the hard cover option is REALLY HEAVY to carry around!

Three-ring binder option: Pro: student can customize how they can segment the chapters by putting the pages in a three-ring binder, so they are not carrying around to much weight of the other chapters. Con: the pages are flimsy and can be torn out of the three-ring binder, if you do not handle the pages with care. also, you have to buy your own three-ring binders to put the pages in before you open the plastic, which is securing your new book.

So, if you are a guy like me, who can carry extra weight and likes all the pages secured together, you should buy the hardcover. If you are going to buy the hardcover, you will be reading it in front of a desk.
However, if you are someone who cant hold up heavy books while reading on the couch (or non-desk), you should buy the three-ring binder option.

DON'T rent this book!!

I had to buy this for my son's AP class and I'm sure the book itself is good. I DO NOT however, recommend renting the book. They would only let me rent it for 6 months initially and indicated at the time that I would be able to extend the rental when it expired (since I needed it for 9 months). However, when it came time to renew, they claimed that the publisher wouldn't let me extend the rental and that I now had to BUY the book. If I had known that in the beginning, I would have bought a hard copy so that I could resell it. Now I am stuck with a $100+ ebook that we won't need in three months and can't sell. I'm mad that this was not stated up front and am growing increasingly torqued at Amazon as these types of things seem to be happening more and more. Just buy the book outright and get at least some of your money back at the end. The Kindle version is a rip off.

Beware of Pirated Copies and International Editions of this Book

This book is very detailed, and it is a great book. The problem is it is so expensive that many people, even on Amazon Marketplace, are selling pirated copies (of rather poor printing quality) and international edition (soft binding) of this. I got one from Marketplace. The description is USED LIKE NEW. Indeed it is like new, but the print quality is bad. The paper quality is bad. And the paper varies from one group of pages to another. Frankly some pirated copies I have seen are of better quality. I have looked at all these Marketplace sellers, and you can see tens of new sellers who are selling this book as Like New but used. It is quite unusual. I suspect some (could be many) of them are pirated copies.

So, just beware.

Loved the series

I was gifted with ARC's of each book in this series in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the whole series. Penny and Blake's relationship started off as an arrangement and a way to keep Penny from sueing Blake (or so he thought). It then progressed into her getting back at him but she decided she couldn't do it. In the final book they find their happily ever after.

Each installment was a nice, quick, easy read that left you wanting more. Ms. Young's words just flowed through the pages making it hard to put the books down.

I read the books individually but have finished the series.

After reading the description, I was prepared for a fifty shades type story and was pleasantly surprised. Penny is much sassier and Blake is less tortured and distant which made the story so much more enjoyable. I'm not sure how many books Young plans to write about this couple, but I'm invested enough to read one or two more to get to their HEA.�
I was somewhat confused by the timeline in the book. The writing made it seem like there were big chunks of the relationship we weren't seeing but the span of the whole book couldn't have been more than a month. Also, it was confusing that Penny was allowed to tell her roommate about the whole situation, when it seemed like she was supposed to have some fake cover story about an internship at another company. And what was Penny planning to do after graduation? She would still need a job!
Overall I enjoyed the book more than I expected. And the ending gave me vibes of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and that made me ridiculously happy.�

Overall I enjoyed this book and thought it progressed the relationship nicely. I would have liked a little more steam but that's a personal preference. The writing was clearer than in the first book of the series which I greatly appreciated.
My biggest issue was that I didn't understand what the big deal was about her "using" him. All she did was get some towels and groceries, which wouldn't be out of the realm of reasonable behavior for any relationship. I also didn't understand the whole "becoming official" thing. Blake is a grown ass man. Would this really be happening? Maybe a talk about exclusivity, but not this huge drama and setup as though it were a proposal. I'm not sure what obstacle I would have preferred them to face, but I just kept groaning over the immaturity and complete lack of consequence of it all.
I generally like each character individually and enjoy that neither is a sad sack tortured soul. I'm looking forward to getting to their HEA in the next book.

This was definitely my favorite of the trilogy. It was nice that all the "angst" was finally gone and we got more of their love story. I would have liked to know more about his family background, as his thoughts made it seem like it greatly affected him.
Overall it was a sweet story with a nice HEA. There could have been a lot more character development but it was a fun easy read.

Ok but could be better

I read the individual books as they were being released.... Through an arc...in exchange for an honest review. The plot seemed like a good idea but I don't think it was played out as well as it could have been. I didn't feel a good connection between the main characters in the first book. The quarral in the second book seemed childish and didn't make much sense. The third book was to explain what the"secret" was in Blake's past but it wasn't anything big...I was a bit disappointed.

Reads more like an infomercial, but some great nuggets of information

This book goes over how to set up online businesses using social media, webinars and other click-advertising methods to generate a stream of income, while not investing much at all of your own capital. Stay-at-home moms who need income, those with underpaying jobs, or no jobs are going to be very interested in what Mark Anastasi has to say.

However, the style of the book (a lot of hype about how the author and others live the "good life" --luxurious vacations, thousands of dollars a month pouring into checking accounts, getting up late, not commuting to an office, living offshore in a less-expensive tropical location) sound more like an infomercial and indeed, the author is suggesting you take one of his seminars.

The good news about this book is that the information is gathered conveniently into one place. The bad news is that you probably can get this yourself if you study online enterprise, and meanwhile you have to wade through the fluff and sales pitch. I will say, that doing all this research yourself online is time-consuming and you do get a number of ideas here (ebooks, informational websites that pay per click, webinars, referral sites) as well as a concise list of opportunities for earning a living with a web-based business.

I am giving the book three stars because a lot of what is in here is true, at least for the current year 2012, and if you are wanting to branch out on your own, start a business with a minimal startup cost, this could be very helpful. I just didn't enjoy the writing; too much anecdotal come-on, hype and cheerleading, too little meat and potatoes of information. You'd need more than this book if you are serious.

A Long Infomercial -

The primary purpose of 'Laptop Millionaire' is to get readers to sign up for his more expensive products, such as $40 software, but much more focused on his $2,000 and $5,000 seminars (plus travel, room and board). I also noted that all the testimonials are authored by others in the 'get rich quick and easy' business. The book is really just an infomercial, with very little of value.

Gotta give PROPS for a really good book on making money online

This book lays out all the popular sales channels (as of 12' april) to earn big money sitting in your underwear at home using popular sites such as facebook, twitter and such.

I mainly picked up the book for more tips to increase my ebook business and I ended up learning more than I thought I would.

If your looking for the most current ways to make money online "at least until a new crop of sales channels open up" this book will satisfy your needs.

It lays out the endless potential in accessing billions of consumers all over the world and then actually shows you how to tap into them.

Update...it is June 1 2014 and I'm still referring to this book. The author should follow up with a training series. There really is some good advice in the book. Gonna start licencing that I learned about...good stuff..just changed from 4 stars to 5

A deep, devastating journey into Gotham's darkest hour

Before there could be the No Man's Land Batman saga, there first had to be the event that caused the destruction of Gotham. This collection contains the massive earthquake that ripped apart Gotham and the immediate repercussions of this tragedy. While this story may not be as revered as No Man's Land, Cataclysm is an important component of this arc that is critical to understanding the complete story.

If you read the description, you'll see that this is a massive book. As such, it contains dozens of different talents, which means dealing with all of the positive and negative connotations that come with that. For the most part, the writing is decent and the art is fair. When this arc was first published, DC did not have quite the same level of artistic talent it does today, so be prepared for largely average panels. Of course, that doesn't mean there is nothing outstanding, quite the contrary, but these few gems are more than balanced by downright mediocre work. As this collection pulls from several titles, including second-tear characters (i.e. Catwoman, Azrael, etc.), second-tear talent should be expected. For me, the comic's art is supposed to pull the reader along the pages, helping to tell a compelling story. Unfortunately, not all of the art does this, which makes some of the chapters drag. Overall, however, the art usually does the job. As I must remind myself, comics sometimes need to be looked at as a product of the times. Future comparison, while valid, can be unnecessarily harsh on decades-old work.

Writing, on the other hand, can be more fairly assessed with respect to time. This is especially true for Batman, who has had solid writing talent for several decades. Dixon writes well, he clearly has an understanding for the Batman and his family. Sure some of the writing is hokey and needlessly expositional, but overall, Dixon's craft is very pleasing. This is a difficult story to keep interesting and non-repetitive. Rescuing earthquake victims is an harrowing experience, and Dixon offers this task from the viewpoints of several characters, minor and major. There is thick layering that reveals just how damning this disaster was to the city. While some issues are quite forgettable, the sum product is excellent.

This isn't a cheap book, but for what you're getting, the value is unbeatable. If you're interested in starting No Man's Land, picking up this one extra volume is highly recommended. Even if you're not, I still recommend this book. It's a good example of a layered Batman mythos. While the abundance of characters is not for the uninitiated, Batman has among the most well-known rogues gallery of any super hero. Thus, anyone with an average familiarity with the character would benefit from reading Cataclysm.

This fantastic collection chronicles the lead up to the incredubly well written mega-arc, No Man's Land. It sets the stage, & in a moment, Gotham City is torn asunder by a massive catastrophe, which nearly levels the entire city. To fully appreciate the scope of No Man's Land, you MUST read this TPB first!

As for the story:
It's awesome! It's totally different from your typical batman story arch. On a normal night, Batman is outsmarting and beating up the bad guys and fighting crime. But this is no normal night; the villain is a freakishly brutal earth quake that devastates Gotham City. So now, Batman has to hang up the boxing gloves, because there is no bad guy to punch. This time his main mission is search and rescue. This story catches Batman at a rare moment…Off guard. We see him struggle to make sense of everything while, at the same time, be the hero that Gotham needs.
Oracle is awesome in this story as well. Moments after the quake ends, there is sheer and utter mayhem; buildings are crumbling, people are panicking, emergency services are dis-organized, but Oracle manages to keep it together amongst all the chaos. It’s a pretty awesome moment for Oracle that really shows why she’s such an important character.
This is a good read for anyone who enjoys a good story and it’s a mandatory read for any serious Batman comic fans. Plus, it leads up to No Man’s Land, which starts off with BOB GALE as the writer!!! Awesome.

I have often said that my Islam is Ma atic Islam. How could this be so? The evidence does not support the popular and oft-repeated claim that Islam derived from Kemetic Ma at. Rather, the most reasonable conclusion that the evidence allows is that the remarkable similarities between Ma at and (proto-) Islam are due to them both being variant traditions of related African peoples who inhabited opposite sides of the Red Sea and who may have ultimately derived from the areas around the cataracts of Nile. The Islam of Prophet Muhammad and the early Muslims was an incarnation or expression of an ancient African system of spirituality. Ma at from kemet was an earlier and cognate expression, as were the spiritual/religious systems of ancient Mesopotaia and ancient India. These are all cognate systems, daughters of the same mother (i.e. African spiritual consciousness) and father (God s revelatory wisdom). The similarities that exist across all of these above cited religious traditions are to be understood in this context. Islam did not derive from Ma at of Kemet; they are both branches from a common spiritual trunk, spiritual fruits from the same African tree. As such, the Qur an of 7th century CE Arabia and the Pryamid Texts of Old Kingdom Egypt (2686 BCE 2181 BCE) are both scriptures and equally important pieces of the puzzle of truth. A new field of inquiry

Dr.Muhammad makes his case in a most scholarly manner, definitively showing that both Egyptian/Kemetian and Islamic spiritual culture have their genesis in the cradle basin of Lake Nnalubaale (Victoria) source of the Kagera (Nile)River.Thus this inquiry breaks new ground for demonstrating the antiquity of Islam.
