Mercia Tapping was educated in the UK with degrees in Psychology and Education before coming to the US in 1973. Since then, she has enjoyed a career spanning some nearly 40 years as a college professor, clinical psychologist, workshop leader and inspirational speaker, consultant in organizational development to Fortune 500 companies, as well as being a serial entrepreneur, including founding AllergyBuyersClub.com. More recently, she has refocused some of her time to include writing and inspirational public speaking engagements. She seeks to inspire others about health related issues, as she has done in some form or another, her entire life. She writes daily inspirational quotes for her blog "OnlyOneLife.com" and can be seen on "FB/Only One Life: Don't Waste It" which is also the title of her book. The unifying purpose of her book, Facebook page and blog, is to inspire, and bring comfort and joy into the lives of others. Mercia was widowed in 2011 when her husband, Herman Lowe died of a brain tumor. She is a breast cancer survivor. She lives with her two Siamese cats in Plymouth, MA.

Inspiring

Authors who write suspense are told to place their characters in a happy, contented situation, and then pull the rug out from under them and throw stones at them.
Mercia Tapping has experienced this in her real life. Her husband contracted brain cancer, and nursing him through it was a heart rending and tragic time. After he had passed, Mercia found it hard to shake off the depression and find meaning in life again. Just as she thought the pall that hung over her was beginning to lift, she herself, discovered she had breast cancer.
Her book details the events after the diagnosis—and may serve as a reference and a comfort to other women who find themselves in the same situation.
She then discovered that a trusted employee had been stealing money from her business, which eventually led to financial ruin.
The only light in her live, was Jon Rivers, the wonderful man who nursed her through her darkest times. Was a new romance in the air?
Mercia’s spirit and intrepid positivity in the direst of circumstances is a model for anyone who has been through a tragedy. I highly recommend this story.

A Personal Story Written with Unflinching Honesty

This is a diary of a remarkable women. Mercia was hit in rapid succession with the long death of her husband from brain cancer, the decline of her successful business as she tended to her husband and the woes of the economic recession during which time she was diagnosed with breast cancer. As she struggled with the hospital trips for chemo and radiation her business continued to decline and her top financial person hid problems and stole money. The efforts of a trusted friend to manage the company on a part time basis and still more obfuscation forced her to sell the company for far less than it was once worth. As she turned the corner to recovery from her cancer she found herself poor and alone. But she kept a 'diary' of these years that became this book. It is strong stuff written with unflinching honesty about he pain but more about the kindness and generosity of special people she encountered on this journey --- the acts of love and gentleness. This is an inspirational diary.

Mercia is an inspiration.

I really enjoyed this book and found it hard to put it down. The author, Mercia Tapping, has lived through several major life challenges, any one of which might be anyone's undoing. But Mercia finds ways to cope, looking for silver linings, and finding bravery and gratitude for blessings that do come her way during almost relentless loss and pain. Her writing is very friendly and honest, like she and you, the reader, are good friends sitting together on the porch sharing coffee and conversation. Her writing style is also quite charming, a testament to her British upbringing. This book is a must read for anyone facing major challenges in life, especially breast cancer treatment. Highly recommended!

About the Author
Judy Johnson, PhD, a Partner with the Continuous Learning Group (CLG), applies behavioral science to help leaders create environments that dramatically improve organizational performance and profitability. Johnson coaches executives on personal leadership and executing strategies through pinpointing key behaviors that lead to success.

Les Dakens, retired Senior Vice President of People for CN, was responsible for strategic direction of CN's Human Resources and Labour Relations in North America and worldwide. Prior to joining CN, Dakens was Vice President of Human Resources for the North American division of the H.J. Heinz Company.

Peter Edwards, Vice President of Human Resources for CN, is responsible for human resources, culture change, implementation, leadership, and organizational development. He assisted CN's CEO in writing two landmark books for employees and designed CN's "Railroad MBA" program.

Edward (Ned) Morse, a Senior Partner with CLG, offers three decades of experience helping Fortune 500 executives develop and implement business-critical strategies. The year is 1969. Yancy Lazarus—bluesman, gambler, future world-class mage and fix-it man—is just a dumb, unlucky kid serving with the 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines in Vietnam.

With just a few weeks left to go until Yancy gets shipped back to the States, he’s just trying to keep his head down and avoid a body bag—no mean feat in Nam. But when his squad is tasked with conducting a routine patrol deep in enemy territory, everything goes to nine kinds of hell, and he quickly sees his chances at survival slipping away.

When the radio operators start to pick up some funky, dirty ol’ blues all the way out in the backcountry, it’s a nice change of pace. At least until the men in Yancy’s squad start losing their minds, turning on each other with murderous intent as the music works its deadly power within them. Convinced it’s some kind of new psychological warfare initiative, the squad leader forces the men to push deeper and deeper into the Vietnamese jungle, obsessed with locating the music’s source. What they find, however, isn’t some new technology, but an ancient spirit awoken by the terrible war. Even worse, the music is changing Yancy too, awakening something buried inside of him. Only one thing is certain, nothing is ever going to be the same.

Glad I read this first

At the suggestion of a friend, I read this first before reading the other books in the series, and I'm glad I did. It really helped put some things in perspective. I don't think it's REQUIRED to read this first, but I am glad that I did. Note that this is a somewhat short, but it's still good.

Another well-written story by Mr. Hunter. Although far too brief, this gives a necessary background on how Yancey became who we see today . The story is fast-paced, but with some necessary darkness. After all, along with light one must have dark and not all stories have happy endings. I'm so looking forward to further adventures of Yancey and feel with this added background closer to the character . If you enjoyed the previous books, this is a must read for a better understanding of how Yancy came to be who he is. If you've not read any of the stories yet this is a good starting point for well-written urban fantasy with a cutting edge. Well done Mr. Hunter keep them coming . Take a chance readers on some new urban fantasy you won't be disappointed .

Fantastic original idea!!

First off what a frigging great original story!! And I've read 'em all, believe me. Loved this in that it helped piece a few things together about Yancy's past/foundation (and the start of his powers) and his relationship with his old-time friend (and also a little of why he's now in the line he's in). I'm not into spoilers or long-winded reviews that dance around as many details as possible (I call them sideways spoilers). It's a great book, great read, and if you're getting into Yancy them you'll definitely like this.
