Great book

Someone told me about this book and how she was using it to make changes in her life. She told me that it was really making a difference in her life so I decided to read it myself. I enjoyed several things about this book. The first that it was short and sweet. The second that it is easy to understand and very straight forward. Third it very positive and uplifting. I have found my One Word and am using it to guide me and am enjoying it.

A masterpice written by Mlalazi. Simple, flowing language. Should be read by all intrested in contemporary African literature. At times history, when seen from the innocent eye can be heartbreaking. But the truth comes out in such an innocent but painful way. Mlalazi has managed to do that.

Christopher Mlalazi handles this highly emotive issue in Zimbabwe's checkered past with sensitivity and simplicity. He made me think of how incredibly difficult it was for certain ethnic groups to simply go about their everyday work and lives without falling foul of the dreaded "red" beret force. Well done, you brought it home for me.

Best I've Read in a Long Time

I have read a lot of Amish fiction by various authors,and enjoyed many. This one for sure goes in my top 10 list. It is so different from the others because most of the book does not take place in the usual Amish settings.Sara is a wonderful,unique, fun character that is full of life, and her story is light (for the most part), full of courage, fun, and just a great read. Her friendships provide even more depth and quirkiness (in a good way) to the story. I couldn't hardly put the book down. I would even consider reading it over again! ;-)

Great Series.!

This was another fun read by Hillary Manton Lodge! I came across the book Plain Jayne while browsing in the library one day and thought it sounded like some light, enjoyable reading. I loved the book and noticed that it was the first book in a series, so I started doing some checking to find the second book, Simply Sara.

This book continued on where Plain Jayne left off. I loved being able to revisit the story of Jayne and her new boyfriend Levi. They are such a great couple, and I really enjoyed reading about their budding romance. This second book focuses on Levi's sister Sara, who, like her brother, decided to leave her Amish way of life to live in the English world. This story picks up as Sara acclimates herself to living with Jayne in the city, and her quest to go to fashion design school. It was just like the first book in that it was a quick and entertaining story, and I even caught myself smiling a couple times as I was reading. I don't know if there is another book or not, but I truly hope so! You can bet I will be looking for it!

For Amish fiction lovers like me, I highly recommend this series. Even if you've never read the genre, you should give these books a try. It is a fun, easy-to-read series, that caters to anyone's love of a happily-ever-after story. Hillary Manton Lodge has proved to me that she is an author that I will keep on my "favorites" list.

About the Author
Chantal Wright is Honorary Fellow of the School of Modern Languages and Cultures at Durham University and Visiting Fellow of the School of Translation and Interpretation at the University of Ottawa. In 2012, her translation of Tzveta Sofronieva’s poetry collection, "A Hand Full of Water", won the inaugural Cliff Becker Book Prize in Translation. Chantal Wright has translated some of Germany’s best-known children’s authors including Milena Baisch, Zoran Drvenkar, and Cornelia Funke. In 2011, her translation of Andreas Steinh�fel’s "The Pasta Detectives" was shortlisted for the Marsh Award for Children’s Literature in the UK. From 2005 to 2008, Chantal Wright was the editor of "Transcript", a European Union funded, online review of international writing published by Literature Across Frontiers at the University of Aberystwyth in Wales.

Hard Graft but worth it

I think it was Einstein who said or at least implied that if you thought you understood quantum physics you probably had not got it? This book tries hard to help, but it is hard work for a non-physicist. However out of the many books and articles on the subject I found it probably the best and as one who has visited the CERN Atlas site the most intriguing as to how the physicists behind the work go about their jobs and what they are trying to achieve. Dewfinitely worth a read and be prepared to work at it!

Ok, this book reminds me that I’m nowhere near as smart as I’d like to think I am. It also reminded me how cool I think physics is.
The author (Jon Butterworth is one of the leading physicists at CERN, and part of the search for the illusive Higgs boson. Don’t know what a Higgs boson is? Well, read this book! Ok, you probably still won’t know what a Higgs boson is, but you’ll get a better appreciation of the work that went into the research.
And that’s the allure of this book, really. If you’re looking for a dry explanation of the Higgs boson (which, by the way, is a particle whose existence was theorized some decades ago) and the physics behind it, this ain’t your book.
Are you looking for a historical narrative of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the huge particle accelerator (protons moving around a 16+ mile circle nearing the speed of light and colliding)? Nope, sorry, that’s a miss here as well.
But it is a great personal narrative of the authors experiences with the project (and other related topics), with a fair amount of background physics so you can keep a perspective on why things were done the way they were done.
Do I get all the physics? Fat chance, bucko. Those brain cells have long moved on. But I did get an insight into a lot of the processes that these types of experiments go through, but in the forumulative stages and then when they’re going full tilt. And that was an interesting ride, even if not ending up with colliding particles in my brain.

Bought this as an audio book, & it was both well written and well read. Physics is soothing after long days of working with people. The careful logic behind the sometimes jerky progress in science isn't hidden by this physicist and that's encouraging not only in science by in every endeavor that works by trial and error (& repeat until right).

It came and was really nice on the outside. But only the outside.

The inside was filled with pen and pencil (I mean, that's okay. It's a used book.) But with pages ripped out? And it wasn't just one or two, there were sections of the book just ripped out. I didn't inspect the book because the cover was okay and looked fine, but I got to class and ended up not being able to use this for my lab.
