The NFPA 5000 is a great resource for those that work in the industrial sector of architecture. The NFPA 5000 cross references many of the other NFPA codes and is a great alternative to the ICC codes including the International building code. The NFPA 5000 is not as popular as the ICC codes but it may have a better fit for industrial projects. The NFPA 5000 cross references the NFPA 101 and NFPA 850 and other codes/standards that have specific information that is dedicated to the industrial projects. It also goes into more detail than the ICC codes for industrial projects and gives more leeway in some cases and is more stringent in some cases as well.

About the Author
Hugh D. Young is Professor of Physics at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. He attended Carnegie Mellon for both undergraduate and graduate study and earned his Ph.D. in fundamental particle theory under the direction of the late Richard Cutkosky. He joined the faculty of Carnegie Mellon in 1956, and has also spent two years as a visiting Professor at the University of California at Berkeley. Hugh's career has centered entirely around undergraduate education. He has written several undergraduate-level textbooks, and in 1973 he became a coauthor with Francis Sears and Mark Zemansky for their well-known introductory texts. In addition to his role on Sears and Zemansky's "College Physics," he is currently a coauthor with Roger Freedman on Sears and Zemanksy's "University Physics,"

Hugh is an enthusiastic skier, climber, and hiker. He also served for several years as Associate Organist at St. Paul's Cathedral in Pittsburgh, and has played numerous organ recitals in the Pittsburgh area. Prof. Young and his wife Alice usually travel extensively in the summer, especially in Europe and in the desert canyon country of southern Utah.

Robert M. Geller teaches physics at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he also obtained his Ph.D. under Robert Antonucci in observational cosmology. Currently, he is involved in two major research projects: a search for cosmological halos predicted by the Big Bang, and a search for the flares that are predicted to occur when a supermassive black hole consumes a star.

Rob also has a strong focus on undergraduate education. In 2003, he received the Distinguished Teaching Award. He trains the graduate student teaching assistants onmethods of physics education. He is also a frequent faculty leader for the UCSB Physics Circus, in which student volunteers perform exciting and thought-provoking physics demonstrations to elementary schools.

Rob loves the outdoors. He and his wife Susanne enjoy backpacking along rivers and fly fishing, usually with rods she has build and flies she has tied. Their daughter Zoe loves fishing too, but her fish tend to be plastic, and float in the bathtub.

***Attention!!!
IF you only require access to the MasteringPhysics, go to MasteringPhysics website and purchase the access code online! Make the account and fill out the information and you will see a page where you can purchase the access code only. The price for limited time MasteringPhysics access code is $30~40. I didn't know they offer access code without textbook because even their website doesn't specify what they offer. I feel like I was scammed. They are aware that if they publicly advertise that they offer MasteringPhysics access code only, not a lot of people will buy the this product (MasteringPhysics with eText). It is their marketing strategy to suck more money from students and learners.

Cons:
1. The way Pearson eText is designed is quite uncomfortable to use and lags. Flipping through pages have delays and is annoying. Text view is limited. Search option is terrible. You will not find what you want to search in the book using the search option.
2. There aren't a lot of additional content besides what the Paper version of textbook has.
3. Their so called tutorials are just book examples done with voice over... wtf And no additional commentary beyond the book example explanations already in the book. I don't know what the purpose of tutorials is and for whom they exist. (May be for people who can't read?)
4. Most people will need additional knowledge beyond the materials covered in the textbook to appropriately answer all the end of the chapter questions in the book. MasteringPhysics will not help you achieve that.

However, by autumn German reorganisation had seen the birth of the Jagdstaffel and arrival of the new Albatros D II, a sleek inline-engined machine built for speed and twin-gun firepower. Thus, for the remainder of the year an epic struggle for aerial superiority raged above the horrors of the Somme battlefields, pitting the manoeuvrable yet under-gunned DH 2s - which were also plagued by sundry engine malfunctions - against the less nimble yet better armed and faster Albatros D IIs. In the end the Germans would regain air superiority, three squadron commanders - two of whom were considered pinnacles of their respective air forces - would lose their lives, and an up-and-coming pilot (Manfred von Richthofen) would triumph in a legendary dogfight and attain unimagined heights fighting with tactics learned from a fallen mentor.

Fighter combat 1916

Osprey's popular Duel series returns to the Great War with a comparison of two premier fighter aircraft of 1916: the DeHavilland DH-2 and Albatros DI/II series. It's an intriguing matchup, pitting (in modern terms) an "angles fighter" against an "energy fighter": the DH's superior agility vs the Albatros' greater speed and two-gun armament.

The DH-2 had helped end the Fokker Scourge in early 1916 but suddenly found itself on the other side of the technological fault line when Albatrii appeared that summer. Though much of the text focuses on the classic clashes between No. 24 Squadron RFC and Jagdstaffel 2 (Hawker, Boelcke and Richthofen), author Jim Miller accords other players due credit, including VC recipient Maj. Lionel Rees of 32 Sqn.

As with all Duel titles, the specific machines are set within their strategic and tactical context. The actual "box score" of each fighter's wins and losses against each other remains unknown, but Miller provides a list of the most successful pilots against the DH and the Albatros types, with the totals approximately at parity.

Page 60 lists two dates for the epic Hawker-Richthofen duel: 23 November in the portrait caption and the 14th in the text. The 23rd is correct--a correction easily made in the next printing.

1916: EVOLUTION OF THE AIR WAR OVER THE WESTERN FRONT

As befits any book of the "Duel" Series, Osprey has done a fine job of outlining in this book the characteristics of both the DH 2 and Albatros DI/DII fighters, which fought against each other over the Western Front from late August to December 1916.

The DH 2 fighter had been developed by the British to wrest aerial supremacy from the Germans, who, with their Fokker E-series monoplane fighters (which boasted a synchronized, forward-firing machine gun) had given British 2-seater reconnaisance aircraft a serious drubbing during the summer and fall of 1915. Entering combat in February 1916, by the time of the Battle of the Somme that summer, the DH 2 had been instrumental in winning back control of the skies over the front for the Royal Flying Corps (RFC). Faster in the climb and in level speed, the DH 2 had the measure of the Fokkers.

Then, in late August 1916, the Germans introduced the Albatros DI/DII fighters, which proved faster than the DH 2, more rugged, and boasting 2 forward-firing machine guns synchronized to fire through the propeller arc. This, coupled with the simultaneous development of the Jagdstaffeln (fighter squadrons) and the example and leadership of Germany's premiere fighter ace and tactician Oswald Boelcke, won back for Germany the aerial supremacy that it would maintain over the Western Front til the summer of 1917.

All in all, this was a fantastic, highly informative book. I highly recommend it to any WWI aviation enthusiast.

A UNIQUE OSPREY DUEL VOLUME!

Barrett Tillman, Montgomery, and Michael O'Connor are highly trustworthy reviewers and I have purchased this book based on their reviews. This is a unique volume in the Osprey Duel series in that the DH 2 was a peculiar looking aircraft. It was a "pusher" design with the engine located behind the pilot to facilitate a forward firing Lewis machine gun free of interference from the propeller. The aircraft first flew in July of 1915 and proved itself to be more than a match for the German Fokker Eindecker which had ruled the skies. (See Fokker Eindecker in action - Aircraft No. 158 for more details!) No. 24 Squadron RFC was the first squadron completely equipped with the DH 2 and garnered the most fame. To regain air superiority, the German designers countered with the Albatros DI and DII (tractor designs with twin synchronized Maxim machine guns. The author James F. Miller adroitly examines this contest for air superiority between the two aircraft . Arguably, one of the greatest dogfights of World War One figures prominently in this duel: Leutnant Manfred von Richthofen, "the Red Baron" (Jasta 2) and Major Lanoe Hawker (24 Squadron). Also Hauptmann Oswald Boelcke's last flight in an Albatros DII is examined. For an aviation enthusiast, momentous and exciting history is portrayed in this book!
