Very interesting and insightful approach to the interpersonal communication.

First I would like to say that I enjoyed the read very much. The book talks about a specific formula that one can use to improve communication with one’s teenager. However as the book continues the discussion one finds interesting that this formula can be used to improve communication with any one (toddler, friend, significant other a coworker). After the read, I started paying more attention on how I communicate to my child. And I realized with the suggested improvements to my questions or statements I could improve communication dramatically.
The book is written in an easy to understand language and presents some ideas in a simple stick figure diagrams that I found both amusing and informative.
At first I thought the book was dragging its feet before it presented me with the formula. However, later on I realized that the author was setting the stage, so when the time comes to present the formula I already had the groundwork to understand the concept and how to use it.
Over all I am pleased that I found this book and gave it a try. I recommend the read.

LIFE-SAVER for parents of teens!

“Want Your Teen to Listen?” gives straight-forward techniques that work! I am really paying close attention to the words I use with my 16-year old now. I focus my and his attention to what I would like for him to do rather than what I don't want. Just this morning when my son wanted to sleep in, I said “Sleeping in feels good but this is a choice for being late to school. It’s your choice. Do you want to be on-time or late to school?” Then he jumped up and got ready! I have used a parenting system, “Positive Discipline for Teens,” and using the formula from “Want Your Teen to Listen?” has been a great enhancement, making the parenting system I use much more effective and efficient.

Great book for improving communication skills!

After reading the book “Want Your Teen To Listen?” I realized that it is very useful for communicating not only for teens , but with children of any age, with people of advanced age and even with peers, colleagues, etc. For me as a scientist, I value that the formula is backed by science and has been proven to work. This makes the book even more valuable and meaningful. My youngest daughter is already 30 years old, but I still have difficulties in communicating with her. This book has opened my eyes to new steps that will specifically help me improve my relationship with her. The book is written clearly, it is understandable for people with any level of education. I will look forward to new books by this author. She has a knack for making you think about how to behave with people, how to talk to them, and how to get them to listen to you. So they understand you better. Plus, you eliminate the uncomfortable feelings of alienation in your communication with people close to you. In general, this area of psychology- communication with teenagers, is rather difficult area to study. I respect that the�author has delved deep into this topic and raised it to a level understandable for everyone. With great pleasure, I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to improve their communication skills.
