About the Author

Marilyn Friend, Ph.D., has spent her entire career as a general education teacher, special education teacher, researcher, teacher educator, and staff developer. She is Professor Emerita of Education in the Department of Specialized Education Services at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and Past-President of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving the educational success of children and youth with disabilities and/or gifts and talents. Dr. Friend has consulted with school professionals nationally and internationally (giving more than 3000 presentations and projects in the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia) as they collaborate to educate their students, assisting them to create classroom partnerships, to form productive and efficient work teams, and to foster inclusive practices.

 

In addition to Special Education: Contemporary Perspectives for School Professionals (4th edition, 2014), she is the co-author with Dr. Lynne Cook of Interactions: Collaboration Skills for School Professionals (7th edition, 2013), co-author with Dr. William Bursuck on Including Students with Special Needs: A Practical Guide for Classroom Teachers (6th edition, 2012), and the author of Co-Teach! One of the better readers

This book is a good read. The information is pertinent. I purchased the loose leaf version which true to name needs a binder to keep it together. The only down side that I would reflect upon is that the leafs are in black and white, the images are grey scaled. One can agree that it was done for the ability to offer the discounted or lower price. The chapters follow a distinct pattern which makes studying easier. Also there are good references that guide the more involved learner.

Awful highlighter!

The highlighting tool in the Pearson products is the worst I have ever seen!! You can't highlight line-by-line. You have to highlight in blocks, which is very cumbersome. For example, if you want to highlight a sentence that runs from the middle of one line to the middle of the next line, you have to select the highlight tool. A highlighted box appears and you have to drag it to the part you want to highlight and resize the box. Then, to do the second half of the sentence that is on the next line, you have to do the same thing all over again! Whoever designed this must not have ever highlighted a text book!

The audio portion of the videos in the enhanced version do not play on an iPad. You can access them on the browser version, just not the iPad app.

Otherwise, the enhanced features are good: useful links and videos in the sidebars. In general, though, unless your teacher is going to actually use the enhanced features, you might be better off with just the standard text.

This is a great book especially for the cost. The book or the eText provide great illustration of various disabilities in special education. I recommend this for veteran and new persons in special education.

This book "Fundamentals of Machine Learning" a good written book for practitioner in machine learning. For people that want to know how machine learning experts work. That processes they use, and how them organize there work.

In additional basic properties and ideas of general algorithms discussed.

This book uses excellent plant English, many examples and real cases

But if you need mathematical background or programming background I think you need use another book.

Much needed book for practioners

This book will teach you CRISP-DM workflow and how to think about analytics in a professional manner in addition to the core ML algorithms. The authors cover crucial practical information and work habits every data scientist should know. I do not know of any way to get this information other than making a lot of mistakes in the field. Well done! I encourage all my students to pick up a copy.

Wonderful debate material.

"No government has a right to do merely what it pleases," Alexander Hamilton tweeted in 1791. Mr. Hamilton was last seen spinning in his grave, no doubt tired of doing so since 2009. This is a terrific collection of quotes from people we all know, and some from people whose names I probably heard in high school but failed to remember since I paid more attention to girls than to teachers. My scholastic tendencies aside, I'll phrase my only complaint as a request to the author: more quotes next time! Looking forward to future volumes.

American History!

This is an absolutely wonderful little book of priceless quotations from the Revolutionary War era. I will be referring to it often. Love the mini biographies at the end. I highly recommend this piece of American Patriotism! Perfect for school children...a mini history book about the Constitution. Well done!

A wonderful survey of quotes from America's Founding Fathers.

Kudos to Ms. Fielding for her expertise in American History and for gleaning profound quotes from our founding father's published source documents, and original letters. Despite arguments from the left our early patriots had a profound faith in God, understood the reasons behind our 2nd Amendment to the Constitution and the importance of upholding the essence of our form of government.
These patriots would be proud of the selection of quotations used in this small book.

Readers not only have original quotes from the writers and speakers, an excellent biography for each person quoted is included with a bibliography of published document listings and where practicable internet links.

I'm eager to share this series of books with family, friends and especially with my grandkids.

You will not find a diluted, revisionist interpretation of American History in these documents. This should stimulate a love of country and respect for the Constitution that all of our citizens should adhere to and believe in, especially our young people.

Decent subject matter review, practice tests are WAY too easy. Good for confidence building, but I think it's too easy otherwise

1. Decent topic-by-topic review guides
2. Clearly written/thought-out answer guides

CONS:
1. WAY too easy.

Whereas one of the other SAT II prep guides might ask an equilibrium question that requires an ICE table (with variables or with actual calculations) the Kaplan version is more likely to ask a question on writing an equilibrium constant (and looking at just things like products over reactants or not including solids and liquids, BASIC stuff...)

2. Practice scores don't line up with actual scores. Because the questions are too easy, that means that your practice score on the Kaplan tests ends up being like 60-80 points higher than on other practice tests (or the actual tests!!!). That's a real problem!!!

In a workplace, where corporate rules are strong, people long for spirituality and acknowledgement of their inner world and personal value. Besides, such awareness helps them be more attentive, more conscious, and do their job with more depth and dedication.

Staying in the Light Illuminates!

The book focuses on how to find true fulfilment. It points out that true fulfilment is not in the external measures of success. It provides a lot of examples how the author managed to aid clients in finding the path to self-illumination. It has a cheerful and uplifting outlook and leaves you feeling...happier. It has the power to transfer the author's joie de vivre which flows in her prose. Her words leaps like a sprite and infects the reader.

Peter K. Enns is Associate Professor in the Department of Government�at Cornell University�and he is the Executive Director of the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research. He is a former Faculty Director of Cornell's Prison Education Program.
