college required text

Used this book at Western Washington University around 2008. I found this book difficult to follow - not sure if it was the book itself or the class structure; probably a combination of both.

Understanding a Culture

Required college text. Good reading better price than on campus bookstore. A great aid in understanding the recent past and current culture of East Asia. As China's place in global economics expands the American public should strive to understand the culture.

As a university textbook, this was useless

This book covers somewhat modern Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese history.
I was required to read and use this textbook during an East Asian class in college. I did use the book for the class at the beginning, but after a while I determined that the content was poorly organized and poorly detailed. The book is probably more suitable for students who just like a supplemental textbook to savor their East Asian history needs. Maybe this opinion of the book was a result of my professor's course syllabus, but I believe that it is not very well written for mainstream use.
