Each of the 169 hole cards combinations has a separate table on a separate page. The order of the tables in the book is in descending order by the rank of the first card and then the rank of the second card from Ace to two. Along with the equity values, each page also contains an image of a sample hand and a nickname for the hand. Many of the nicknames are well known, but some are new and were created just for this book. This is a great weapon to add to your arsenal. I’ve used tables like these for playing poker live or online for many years. It is a convenient way to assess a hands’s chances in a showdown before, during, or after a game. Essential reference work on poker

I'm not aware that this information has been published completely anywhere else, making it an essential reference work that a serious student of the game should want to have in their collection. And as one who still reads paper books as well as e-books I have no problem with paying for this book rather than getting the information off the web because it can be really handy to keep with whatever books I'm currently reading (including Kindle!). We need to not get hung up on formats and be pleased when good information is available in a variety of formats at a reasonable price...

Great book!

I just received this book the other day and I think it’s great! Call me old fashioned, but I actually like having a physical book to look at and read. Technology is such a major part of our lives already and I don’t always like using computers for everything. It’s easier for me to skim through a book like this. The information is very useful and I only play live poker, mostly $2-5 NL or Limit. I like that it’s about knowing the values and where you stand in the game. It’s easy to read and very informing.

I know that because of this book, my games will be optimized. If you’re looking for a book to help you with your poker game, I highly recommend this one!

No other poker book actually compares to this

I received this book as a gift.

This book is different from most every other poker book. It doesn't give any advice, just numbers. Simple mined systems for getting showdown odds can be wrong by 5-10% and that's enough to worry me. If you play much hold em poker there's lots of times where you would lie to know exactly how much ahead or behind you are on a showdown. So it serves a purpose and no other book has this that I know of. Certainly you don't have to worry about the advice being wrong or out of date

Valuable insight into retirement math

I had purchased this book when if was first published and have now come back to it after reading his recent work (link below). This earlier book is a very detailed discussion of the computations that go into the question of retirement income. For those who are math oriented, this is a good book to begin to get insight into solving the retirement income question. He has a supporting website at [...].

For those who would like to have insight into how to apply this math, his more recent book Are You a Stock or a Bond? Create Your Own Pension Plan for a Secure Financial Future will help, and it is an easier read for most, especially the non math oriented.

As a holder of a physics degree, the math so far applies to static periods, i.e. considering what age a person currently is (t for time is static). However, the time period continually decreases since longevity is continually shortening as a person ages. Therefore, the time should be evaluated as delta t or changing time. In practice, I see this difference between ages emerge as I evaluate different situations. Readjusting the formula for each age, as one ages, does not work since in practice this results in taking more out early and having to retrench later.

However, getting deeper insight into the mathematical approach is extremely enlightening and useful to those who are so oriented.

I read the book from front to cover. It's combination of actuarial principles and the application to highly relevant retirement issues is unique. Most of the actuarial books are impossible to read even for well trained economists. A way to keep consulting income for actuaries? There is a huge gap between finance people and insurance guys. Milevskys book is a long needed and important step to bring those two branches closer together - to start solving real problems in real life. A must have on the desk of financial planners, retirement economists and bankers looking for problems which are difficult but relevant in application.

Perfect for me a wanna-be actuary puzzled by people throwing out 4% withdrawal rules and 20% savings rates and wondering where in the hell those numbers came from. This book explains the formulas used to derive them and enables you to apply your own assumptions and get your own numbers. Full explanation of why he prefers a probability distribution for expected returns rather than montecarlo simulations using historical returns. Formulas given give you confidence that your monte carlo model is giving you reasonable results.

Not all formulas derived from scratch, but proof available on the web.

Essential if you want to "do the math" or make reasonableness checks on monte carlo model outputs.

Good Buy

I purchased this book for use at Recovery Inc. meetings. It's helpful over all, but a little difficult to follow sometimes. Each chapter is a transcript of one of Dr. Low's discussions, so that's why the flow seems a bit odd at first, since it's not written specifically for the reader. If you can mentally put yourself at the discussion, it reads fine. Overall I have found it useful.

"New" book came incredibly damaged

I bought this book new and it came incredibly damaged. The pages and covers are bent; there are dents; and the pages are discolored. I am thoroughly disappointed with this, and I will be contacting Amazon to lodge a complaint. I can't return this book because I need to read it for class, but I will be expecting to be recompensed.

Making a suitable case for remedies....

This book is seriously needed by the Construction Bar! The authors, father and daughter team Roger and Camilla ter Haar, have produced an essential statement of practice for both the academic and the practical elements of what we need to tell the clients in a construction case- what can I get? This is especially relevant where we are negotiating a settlement which can crop up quite frequently in this specialist area of law, often when the case is part heard because of the way the evidence has gone. The case law citations, the detailed index and the academic comment are great bonuses for this essential reference book for chambers.

The book starts well with a description of what we do at the Construction Bar- in general we cover building, engineering and technology projects with particular reference to standard forms of contract although most disputes arise out of or in respect of construction projects. The term is quite loose today as it covers a number of linked substantive law areas and the remedies available in them.

There are a number of books on the market covering the thorny issue of remedies for torts and breach of contract which are so intermingled in reality as to need the rigorous analysis demanded by the courts when remedies in these areas are sought.

That is where `ter Haar on Remedies' comes into its own. There are 25 chapters covering all the main areas: rectification, rescission, quantum meruit, termination, frustration, measure of damages, the `black hole' cases, loss of profits and overheads, `global' claims, costs and interest, set off, injunctions, specific performance, declarations, limitation and dispute resolution.

It is worth looking at the last chapter on ADR in particular because there are some very handy hints on how the courts may well be viewing the timetable of proceedings in the future. It may well be that when there is a new edition of this work (as they surely must be!) that chapter 25 will be expanded as ADR itself expands.

The authors have made out a great case for handling the issue of remedies with intelligent use of authorities although, as they say, it is not designed to cover or include a whole range of problems in commercial construction projects, but to give us an identification of the areas that are likely to be of interest when running a case- they do just that and `ter Haar' has an important place in the chambers library in both the contract and the tort sections.

A book which scratches the surface of how RuPaul saw himself, and his journey, as of 1995.

Overview

You Better Work! Well, for most of RuPaul’s life that is just what he did. Whether is was working on a signature look, how to perfect his hair, makeup, or tuck, or climbing the stairs to stardom, working is all he did. All the while battling a few addictions, failures, and being grossly misunderstood at times.

Main Storyline

RuPaul Charles, supermodel of the world, like many modern stars wasn’t born with bright lights showing off his best features and people dying to hear what he said. It began, as most consider their beginning, rather humble. He was the only boy of a group of girls, his parents were divorced, and he knew from a young age he wasn’t like everyone else. Now, whether he was trans or just gay that wasn’t clear until he realized how much he was a man who loved men in his teen years.

But, like most, life was a struggle. Yes, love was what he preached, especially self-love, but it was a complicated thing personally. RuPaul’s father wasn’t really there, his mom loved him, but was a bit mean about it, and while his sisters were always supportive, that is never enough. You need friends, someone who can be more than a friend, but people came and went, sometimes on good terms and other times not. Either way, RuPaul had to keep his angles right, the look fierce, and that upper lip strong.

After all, while the 20s were sacrificed to drugs, setbacks, and personal humiliations, those 30s were stardom. From the kid who put his own posters up in Atlanta to become known, and the one who used to go-go dance to make rent, to emceeing parties, putting out hit records, and even being nominated for televised awards. This is the story of a man with no fear of embracing his feminity in all aspects, besides just glamour, and who took their wit, their radiance, and ability to speak to the common man while dressed up as their own version of a supermodel, to heights that possibly we won’t see repeated anytime soon.

Highlights

From how RuPaul transforms into the supermodel to details about how he survived when he knew he was a star undiscovered, there are a lot of details and random facts provided within this book. But perhaps what makes this book so appealing is that it doesn’t pull punches yet doesn’t become downtrodden nor vulgar. RuPaul, recognizing the dark times, always tries to make light of a situation. All the while, not trying to present a condescending tone of “If I made it you can to” but more so that you have to find a way to make it, there is always a better tomorrow, and who knows how fabulous it could be.

On The Fence

Unfortunately, this book is out of print and while it is worth reading if it is $12 or $13, this isn’t a masterpiece worth paying more than that. For as much as RuPaul fills the book with pictures, random facts about his favorite movies, actresses, and how he survived his rise to fame, something about this book feels strange.

Strange in a good way since RuPaul’s tone isn’t speaking to you as a friend or stranger, but more so like a fairy godmother or weird uncle. However, at the same time, it also feels weirdly calculated. For those who are familiar with Beyoncé’s work, it is similar to what she puts out. Yes, the work is personal, but it is also made so you only really know what they are willing to let go. Meaning, you aren’t going to be let into anything which can’t be spun into something positive. Especially something which won’t make them look like either the victim or someone who did something justifiable. Heck, even the times when neither is an option, it is at least written to be funny so you easily forgive.

Making for RuPaul quickly going over his relationships being one of the few times you feel like you get to see behind the curtain. For despite noting alcoholism, homelessness, and depression, it isn’t until we hear about how RuPaul would chase those who didn’t love him and push away those who did, which makes him seem human. That is rather than this person who you fully recognized struggled, but is written like they had a Disney Princess like rise to a happy ending. One in which eventually they got out of their drab clothes and the cellar and got to walk amongst Hollywood royalty.

Even with that said, though, the book brings up many points about feminity and being your own person, and loving that person, which is what makes it worth finding. However, it is hard to shake that we are being told things on a need to know basis and even those details are watered down. Be it to protect the legacy, RuPaul not ready to reveal the pain and open the cut, or simply this book wasn’t about you feeling pity, sympathy, or anything like that. It was about saying that I found a way despite of and so can you. Maybe not the exact path I took, but one day, be it tomorrow, next week, next month, or even a few years, your dreams can come true. Yeah, you may need to modify that dream so it can come forth into reality, but while it may be difficult it is possible.

Deep, Enlightening, and Encouraging

This devotional is extraordinary. Spurgeon writes beautifully and has such a profound understanding of God's Word and how it relates to our lives. He teaches and encourages the reader, and when you've lifted your head from the day's reading, you know more about our most wonderful Master. You also feel better, no matter what life's bringing you at the time. It's amazing that Spurgeon wrote this one when he was only 31 years old! Jim Reimann takes it further each day by adding more to nourish your spirit. There's also one for bedtime, called "Evening By Evening".

This book by Spurgeon is uplifting. The daily devotions really lifted my eyes to the wonder of God, every morning. I would highly recommend this book. Spurgeon is a master at drawing you deeper to the Lord
